Lima Beans Curry Mommy Style !!!!!
Lima beans or Pavta in marathi Or Popat in Vidarbha are large, flat, kidney shaped edible seeds. Generally available throughout the winter and sometimes early summer. They are important source of plant protein, rich source of antioxidant, vitamins ans minerals. Also contains substantial amount of dietary fiber. I like lima beans' pod curry made by my mommy. Curry served with piping hot plain rice is sort of comfy food for me. It's not only me, but my son and dearest hubby who also enjoy this curry.
To make this curry:
Ingredients:
1. Pavatta or popat or lima beans: 1 cup
2. Grated fresh coconut: 1 ½ cups
3. Garlic: 4-5 cloves
4. Green chilies: 2
5. Ginger: ½ inch piece
6. Tomato: - 1 big sized
7. Oil: 3 tablespoons
8. Mustard seeds: ½ teaspoon
9. Salt: As per taste
10. Turmeric powder: ½ teaspoon
11. Red chili powder: 2 teaspoons
12. Kala masala or goda masala: ½ teaspoon
13. Water: 2 cups
14. Garam masala or meat masala: ½ teaspoon
Method:
1. Pressure cook pods for two whistles on high flame and five minute on low heat.
2. Make puree of fresh coconut, garlic, ginger, green chilies and tomato.
3. Heat oil in a pan.
4. Add mustard seeds.
5. Add coconut-tomato puree. Sauté till oil separates.
6. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder and Maharashtra black masala. Mix well.
7. Add boiled beans and sauté for a while.
8. Add water, salt and garam masala or meat masala. Let it boil for ten minutes on high flame.
9. Cook covered for 10-15 minutes on low heat.
10 Serve hot with jawar bhakri or roti or rice.
No need to cook separate dal if you are cooking this curry. Perfect for current kinda situation. Of course, if you could find these beans in the market...
