Rum Baba Or Baba Au Rum

Rum Baba Rum Baba – Let’s Dig Into This French Delight !!! In the month of January, while vacationing in Goa, had this amazing dessert called "Rum Baba" at a French restaurant. You may think it's same as Rum Balls. No there is no similarities in both desserts apart from one ingredient that is rum. Rum Baba or Baba Au Rum (French name) is a yeast cake soaked in syrup made with hard liquor, usually rum. It was served to us with whipped cream, strawberry and 30 ml white rum. Yesterday I tried to recreate this dessert with whatever I had in my pantry. Ya presentation of my dessert sucks but trust me it tastes exactly the same or shall I say better 😜. A bit lengthy process though.  So here we go... Ingredients: For baba: 1. Butter:                                                                                           9 tablespoons 2. All-purpose flour:                                                                       2 cups 3. Sugar:

Organic Indian Bean Lentil

Organic Hyacinth Bean or Indian Bean or Papdi Val Lentil or Dal
Hyacinth Bean or Indian Bean or Papdi Val Lentil or Dal

How to cook organic lentil or dal in a healthy and yummy way?

Now what is an absolute bliss? For me it is in getting fresh, unadulterated and organic supply of fruits, veggies, pulses, grains etc. Now getting all these supplies in this way on a continuous basis is surely difficult. But when you get it, that's definitely a delightful moment. I have this domestic help who is not only efficient at her work but also very loving lady. She has little kitchen garden at her place where she grows seasonal vegetables. Recently she had grown a variety of Indian bean or hyacinth bean or what we call papdi val in Marathi. What she did is sun dried the pods of these beans and converted into pulse by hand grinding in a quern. She got it some for our family. Really generous lady 👏👏. I made dal out of it for lunch today. It was divine. For that you need….

Ingredients:

1. Hyacinth bean or Indian bean or papdi val lentil
2. Turmeric powder
3. Spoonful of Ghee (clarified butter)
4. Oil
5. Mustard seeds
6. Green chillies
7. Finely chopped garlic
8. Finely chopped onions
9. Finely chopped tomatoes
10. Salt
11. Garam masala powder
12. Water
13. Jaggery to balance the flavour (optional)
14. Red chilli powder (optional)
15. Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing

Method:

1. Pressure cook lentil with some water, turmeric powder and spoon of ghee. Keep aside. You need to soak lentil for half an hour before pressure cooking.
2. In a heated pan add oil, mustard seeds, green chillies and sauté.
3. Add finely chopped garlic and onions. Sauté well.
4. Add finely chopped tomatoes. Sauté again.
5. Now add cooked lentil which you need to mash with a churner. You can add red chilli powder if you want. I have not added.
6. Adjust consistency by adding water. Add salt and little garam masala.
7. I have added little bit of jaggery. But that's optional. Let it boil. Garnish with coriander once done.

Serve with rice or roti. It was truly fulfilling experience 💕💕💕
